Blood Pressure Check

By appointment with our Practice Nurse

You do not need to make an appointment to check your blood pressure. We have a blood pressure monitor in our waiting room and it is available during our hours of opening. If your blood pressure needs further monitoring you will be contacted. If your GP advises, we can provide blood pressure monitors for home use and can offer 24 hour blood pressure monitoring. Our blood pressure equipment has been donated by Patient Link.

Visit British Heart Foundation website for more information.

Child Development Checks

Appointments are sent to parents when their child's checks are due.

Child development checks are done by Dr Wright, Dr Roberts, Dr Sanghani, Dr Lee, Dr Bojarowska and the Health Visitor.

All babies are offered a medical check by the doctor at approximately six weeks.

The Health Visitor does a hearing test at eight to nine months with further developmental checks at 18 months, three and four years.

Contraception

We provide a high level of expertise in all aspects of Family Planning and Reproductive Health and offer the full range of contraceptive choices, including:

  • All oral contraceptives (COC and POP)
  • Contraceptive patches (Evra), rings (Nuvaring) and injections
  • Free condoms for young people
  • The 3 year implant Nexplanon
  • Intra-uterine devices, the Mirena IUS (also used for troublesome bleeding and HRT) and a range of Copper devices (Non-hormonal)

If you are not sure who to see or speak to, our Reception staff will direct you to the appropriate doctor or nurse.

Emergency Contraception

Emergency contraception (EC) is free, and can be used to prevent an unplanned pregnancy for UP TO 5 DAYS after sex, and is more effective the earlier it is taken. Please do let the staff know that you need EC when you phone so that we can deal with your request appropriately. You are able to request EC from the on-call doctor service at the weekend and bank holidays. You can also buy EC from any pharmacy, and it may be free in some chemists to younger women.

The copper intrauterine device is highly effective as emergency contraception, and can be fitted many days after unprotected sex. Please ask for advice.

For more information visit the Family Planning Association website.

Chlamydia Screening

We also supply Chlamydia self-screening packs for men and women aged 16 to 24. These are available from any doctor or nurse (just ask during any consultation) and also from Reception. These are to detect unexpected infection. If you have symptoms of discharge or pain, please speak to a doctor, or contact the Sexual Health clinic (01903 285199).

Flu Vaccinations

Clinics are held every October and November.

Please telephone in September to see when the flu vaccination clinics are being held and to book an appointment.

Pneumonia vaccination is also recommended for these groups of patients. We recommend that anyone over the age of 65 should have a pneumovax injection for the protection against pneumonia. This is a one-off injection and lasts a lifetime. If you have already had this injection at a previous surgery, please let us know and we can add this information to your records.

Minor Surgery and Wart Freezing

These clinics are run by Dr R Sanghani.

If you have any 'lump' or 'bump' that is bothering you he will be happy to offer advice. Should removal or biopsy be appropriate the doctor will be happy to arrange this. Some warts require specialised treatment and the practice has the facilities to provide this. Your doctor will advise you about what treatment is necessary.

Proactive Care +

Health and social services, in this area, are now offering a service that gives further support to people with long term health conditions or complex health and social care needs. The aim is to put you at the centre of what they do to meet all of your healthcare needs as effectively as possible. For further information follow the link to their leaflet or contact your doctor to see if you are eligible for this service.
